DON’T miss the gloriously energetic, beautifully vibrant take on 17th century life in a London theatre coming to the Yvonne Arnaud in Guildford.
Join Jessica Swale’s warm-hearted bawdy comedy Nell Gwynn which charts the rise of an unlikely heroine from her roots in Coal Yard Alley to her success as Britain’s most celebrated actress and her hard-won place in the heart of the king.
Winner of 2016 Olivier Award for Best New Comedy, Nell Gwynn comes to Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theatre from Tuesday, March 28, to Saturday, April 1.
Brought to the stage by English Touring Theatre this blissfully funny bio-drama embarks on its first ever UK tour direct from critically acclaimed sell-out runs at the Apollo Theatre in London’s West End and the Globe Theatre.
Olivier Award-nominated actress Laura Pitt-Pulford stars in the title role with the play write from Jessica Swale.
Swale said: “Entertainment is an often under-valued quality in theatre. It’s wonderful to play a thought-provoking tragedy, but comedy has its place too, and it’s vital to the heartbeat of our culture. Nell Gwynn is about challenging expectations, rising above prejudice, it’s about women, art, sacrifice and love. So I hope people walk away having had an entertaining and thought-provoking evening.”
