COMMONWEALTH Day was marked by East Hampshire District Council with the raising of the Commonwealth Flag.
Council chairman cllr David Ashcroft raised the flag over Penns Place on Monday, March 13, as part of an event replicated around the world.
He said: “Raising the flag is a celebration of our relationships with our traditional friends around the world.
“We are fortunate that we have historic ties with so many nations with whom we share social, cultural and economic values.
“We are proud to be part of the Commonwealth and happy to celebrate this global partnership in East Hampshire.”
Every year more than 700 Commonwealth flags are raised around the UK, in the UK’s overseas territories and in Commonwealth countries.
Commonwealth day aims to reaffirm the commitment of all member states to democracy, development, and respect for diversity.
