ALFRESO poetry amid the flowers, fruit and vegetables was a delight at Petersfield Community Garden.

The Poetry Picnic on Friday, July 14, in the garden at Waterworks Lane, was part of the South Downs Poetry Festival, and a first for the town.

And it kicked off a weekend of poetry in Petersfield, with Poetry and Pints at the nearby Harrow Inn at Steep that evening, and a line-up of workshops and readings by esteemed poets at St Peter’s Parish Hall on Saturday.

Poetry circuit veteran Audi Maserati, who lives in Petersfield, who was a star turn at Poetry and Pints, was one of those enjoying the sunshine, the produce and the verse in the garden.

He recited one of his own offerings, a poignant love poem, and listened to others about gardens, day trippers on the South Downs and more.

Eight-year-old Tulucia, of Sheet Primary School, who loves helping out in the garden, picked some peas for everyone to enjoy.
