CONCERNS that in an emergency fire engines may not be able to get between cars parked on both sides of a residential road in Froxfield are being looked at by councillors.
Last year there was a fire at a home on Deans Dell, which is off Dellfield estate road and about two thirds of the way along it.
Although fire engines arrived promptly and no-one was injured, the householder told counciller’s at their January 12 meeting, there could have been a different outcome if cars were parked along the road.
He also said that when the new houses were built at Dean’s Dell, no extra car park was provided, leaving the residents with no option but to park on the road.
Froxfield and Privett Parish Council chairman counciller John Ellis said: “There is an access issue on the road, a big car would struggle to get through at times because of the number of cars parked along the road.
“Luckily so far it hasn’t caused a problem, but there was a fire there last year and fortunately there weren’t any cars parked along the road, but the householder was worried there could be a problem in future and brought it to our attention.
“There are more cars now than there were when the Dellfield houses were built.”
Now the council has written to housing associations, and East Hampshire district and Hampshire county councillors, asking that the possibility of providing more parking spaces is investigated.
And the fire brigade has told council clerk Helen Mason that should their access to a fire be blocked by parked cars, firefighters would ‘move’ them out the way.
