THE WINNER of Haslemere String Competition will be performing with the Waverley Ensemble at their next concert.

Seventeen-year-old Ketan Curtis, a double bass player who attends the Yehudi Menuhin School at Cobham, will be the soloist in Frank Proto’s Nine Variants for Double Bass, Strings and Piano at St Christopher’s Church today (Saturday) at 7.30pm.

The programme, conducted by Tom Lydon, will also include Mozart’s Divertimento, Handel’s Concerto Grosso Op 6 no 10, Winter from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and Concerto Grosso Op6 No.8 by Corelli.

Ishani Bhoola, who leads the ensemble will be joined by friends and students in a musical soiree in aid of Hope for Justice at Three Counties Church, Hammer, on December 2, at 7.30pm.

The varied programme of music will feature Ben Cooley, who is a trained opera singer and voice coach but now is chief executive of Hope for Justice, an anti-slavery charity. The evening will conclude with carols.
