A bridge in Petersfield seems to have been abandoned and is slowly becoming overgrown.

The pedestrian bridge over Drum Stream from Tor Way to the Festival Hall car park has been closed for months, and is now becoming overgrown with brambles.

It was originally closed off by red plastic barricades after one of the handrails somehow ended up in the river.

And nearly every month the barriers get knocked down over the weekend, and someone – no-one seems to know who – puts them back up.

Tor Way opened in 1974, and it’s thought the bridge was built around the same time.

Both Petersfield Town Council and East Hampshire District Council say the bridge is nothing to with them and never has been.

Hampshire County Council was asked last Friday (July 1) if they were responsible for its upkeep.

As the Post went to press on Wednesday, the council still hadn’t replied.

So who does replace the barriers after they have been knocked over?
