PETERSFIELD Antiques Fair held in the Festival Hall last weekend saw a record number of sales, and almost a record number of bidders and stalls.

Organiser Caroline Penman said: “It went very well, it was very good. The fair was unaffected by the miserable weather over the weekend, perhaps people just wanted to get out, and came here instead of facing the wind and rain. The highlight was an antique bracelet which sold for £25,000, and three other items sold for five figure sums. But there were items on offer from around £20 upwards. The most surprising thing was how well old fashioned dark wood furniture was selling, it appears to be fashionable again, and one seller of mid 20th century furniture sold out.”

Caroline, of Penmans Antiques, has been running antique fairs in Petersfield twice a year since 1973, and said the next one in September is already fully booked.
