THE FIFTH Liss Film Festival at the Triangle was a big success, say organisers.

This year’s festival was opened by broadcaster and writer Martin Muncaster at the opening night 1920s gala, which featured a canapes and fizz reception before a screening of Chicago.

One of the organisers of the festival, Marilyn Timney, said: “The festival went really well and we’re very pleased.

“We reached across all age groups, and across the community.

“Martin’s speech at the opening night gala was lovely as it was personable and came across well.

“We had a pianist playing appropriate music at the opening night gala, and he did a really good job. We’re very grateful to him.

“The 1920s night went down a storm and the afternoon tea on the Friday also went very well.

“The audience figures were may be a little bit down on last year, but a lot of our regular attendees were away.

“In general the numbers were good, and hopefully the new people who came saw that the Triangle is a fun and friendly place. Seeing different faces is always good.

“There is a lot of interest in our films throughout the year, and quite a few people see several films across the year.

“The children’s film on the Saturday went well and the lashings of popcorn helped. The cocktails after Bridget Jones’s Baby also went down well.”

Plans are in place for the festival to return next year.

“We are going to hold a meeting to discuss what went well and what can be done better next year,” said Marilyn.

“We learn something new every time, as something that works well one year might not always work well the next year. The structure is in place though.”

Money raised from this year’s festival will go towards the alterations to extend the Triangle’s coffee bar space.
