THE SIXTH Liss Film Festival was a success, say organisers.
This year’s festival was opened by broadcaster and writer Martin Muncaster at the opening night 1960s gala, which featured a canapes and fizz reception before a screening of Hairspray.
Martin also opened the festival last year.
Festival organiser Marilyn Timney said: “Martin was just as lovely as last time.
“The festival started quietly but the Friday afternoon tea and film was a big success.
“We had a full house for the afternoon tea, and a very good audience for The Audience on the Friday evening.
“The closing gala meal and film on the Sunday also went very well.
“Altogether it was a successful festival, and the footfall was the same as last year.
“I would like to thank all the volunteers who gave up their time so generously. We have a fantastic team, and they do everything with enthusiasm and good humour.
“I would also like to thank all our sponsors, including Redmayne Bentley and East Hampshire District Council, who were incredibly generous once again.”
New this year was Cinegi, a streaming system which was used to show a filmed National Theatre performance of The Audience from 2013.
Going forward, Cinegi will give the Triangle Centre the option to screen classic theatrical productions as well as opera and ballet performances.
“The feedback we’ve had is that it is something people would like to see more of, so we’ll explore what to do next with Cinegi,” said Marilyn.
Plans are in place for the festival to return next year.
“If anyone has any good ideas for films to show next year then please let us know,” added Marilyn.
Money raised from this year’s festival will be put towards lighting improvements and electrical works at the Triangle Centre.
