PETERSFIELD Bicycle Buddies, which aims to get cyclists back on their bikes, cycling with friends and enjoying small group rides together, has officially been launched.

Despite the rain at the launch event, there was a steady stream of visitors who went along to have a chat and find out more.

The initiative has received lots of interest and support, with more than 40 cyclists now involved, including 14 people signing up at the launch.

Also there on the day was Sarah Cunnold from Cycling UK, which encourages and supports the development of community cycle clubs across the UK.

She said: “It was wonderful to join the launch of the Petersfield Bicycle Buddies scheme and to see such a high level of interest.

“I’m excited to support the scheme as it grows and leads to more people enjoying the joys of cycling.”

The event was also supported by Liss Men’s Shed, who hope to collaborate with future bike maintenance initiatives.

On the following day, a group ride took place from Petersfield Square to Sky Park Farm, West Harting, for coffee and croissants and to see hundreds of red deer. Three groups of riders took part, with routes ranging from nine to 14 miles.

Future plans include training for group ride leaders, workshops on looking after bikes and organising regular social rides to suit a range of cycling abilities.

Though the group is in its infancy, it is growing all the time.
