RAIL passengers across East Hampshire have faced a morning of disruption to train services, with delays expected to continue throughout the day.
South West Trains services to and from London Waterloo have faced major delays due to a track defect at a set of points on the fast line at Byfleet and New Haw.
This resulted in the London-bound line between Woking and Surbiton being blocked and caused major disruption for morning rush hour commuters.
South West Trains are warning passengers that services may be delayed by up to 45 minutes or revised for the rest of today. Disruption is expected to continue until the end of service tomorrow (Tuesday).
A statement from South West Trains said: “Trains normally using this line will be diverted on to the slow line, and this will result in trains taking longer than usual to reach their destination.
“Some services will be cancelled, delayed or altered.
“We will be working to repair the track defect tonight, but the repair will require significant testing.
“In the event that testing is unsuccessful or that repairs cannot be completed, services on Tuesday may also be disrupted.”
The disruption means that services from Alton towards London Waterloo will not call at West Byfleet all day.
Some services from Portsmouth to London Waterloo and heading towards East Hampshire may be diverted via Cobham and Epsom and will not call at Woking.
South West Trains are strongly recommending passengers check their journey plans prior to travelling.
