BOOM Boxes, Live Aid, Knight Rider, Care Bears, The A Team, Duran Duran, Ghostbusters, Cabbage Patch Kids, the ghoulish choreography on Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
If you fondly remember any of these things and want to make like Johnny Hates Jazz and Turn Back the Clock, then James Alderson is your man.
“I do gigs all over the country and I found myself writing more and more stuff about the 80s,” said the Denmead stand-up on the origins of his Bring Back the 80s show which comes to Petersfield on Saturday, November 16.
“I was trying things out with audiences and I started thinking ‘there’s something in this’.
“It wasn’t too long before I started becoming nostalgic for TV and the music and things in the shops back then like Rubik’s Cubes and Commodore C64s.
“Bring Back the 80s came from that but I wouldn’t say it’s a stand-up show, I wanted to do something that had an 80s theme and has people looking back nostalgically.”
Bring Back the 80s has been warmly received with tickets selling out for a recent show at The Spring Centre in Havant.
It’s now coming to Petersfield as Alderson has punched the digits 16-11-2019 into his Delorean console.
His show at The Studio@TPS will definitely appeal to people who grew up in the decade of A-ha, Adam Ant and Atari but it’s not exclusively aimed at 80s kids.
He said: “It seems to really connect with people who really did grow up in the 80s but it’s fun for everyone.
“There’s some reminiscences about pop music and some interaction but it’s just a lot of silliness and hoping to give people the warm fuzzy feeling about what life was like in the 80s.
“I just want people to walk out of the theatre with a warm 80s glow.”
Whether you get to the show on roller blades or a Sinclair c5, just get there!
Bring Back the 80s will begin at 7pm while tickets are priced £15.40 including booking fee from 01730 263119 or www.wegottickets.com or www.list.co.uk
