SCHOOL is almost out so now’s the time to plan those boredom-busting outings with the family.
National Trust properties are always great places to head to with acres of space for children to run around in and lots of interesting events taking place.
Setting up camp is always exciting, and a must for youngsters during the summer.
At Hinton Ampner, near Alresford, there is a chance to sleep out in its woodland at the Big Camp on July 29 and 30, from 5.30pm to 10am.
The team there will be on hand to help with den building in the ancient parkland, once the scene of a famous Civil War battle.
Evening entertainment will include organised games, bug hunting and a spot of star gazing as the night draws in.
Marshmallows will be toasted over the campfire, and there will be a barbecue supper as well as a breakfast the next morning.
The cost is £15 for adults and £10 for children. Book on 0344 2491895.
At Hinton Ampner too, there is a summer wild animals trail, running from July 26 to September 3.
This will test visitors’ knowledge of wild animal tracks, and there will be the chance for tree climbing, more bug hunting and den building, and exploring.
At Uppark, there is a family trail inspired by the famous dolls’ house that so enchants visitors to the National Trust property near South Harting.
The summer in miniature trail, which runs from July 26 to September 3, challenges children to find miniature doors hidden in the gardens. After all the hunting, the wildflower meadow is a great place for a picnic and for finding bugs in the long grass.
All things duck related are making for quacking adventures at Winchester City Mill. Follow the duck trail challenge, from July 26 to September 3, which presents tasks to complete, from the arty to the mathematical.
Ducks can be bought there for its big Duck Race on August 26, which sees the yellow bath-tub toys set off from the mill and down the River Itchen.
