PLANS for up to 30 houses and a village hall on land behind the Seven Start pub in Stroud are being discussed ‘informally’ by planners and developers.
Cala Homes is asking the advice of South Downs National Park Authority planners on two versions of plans to build on the fields.
The advice will help the developers decide which version it should submit as a full planning application to be decided by the planners.
The developers say they have a chance to buy the family owned fields that run alongside Ramsdean Road.
Version one would see 20 houses, (eight affordable) built; version two, 26 homes (eight affordable) and the land for a village hall and the money to build it, handed to Stroud Parish Council.
The third proposal is a 30 dwelling estate, with 12 affordable homes, and land and money for a village hall given to the parish council.
Cala Homes says the third proposal is popular with the residents asked to choose.
The village school is about 50 yards further up Ramsdean Road from the proposed estate, and may gain parking spaces on the estate.
In paperwork sent to planners, the developers point out that the Joint Core Strategy development policy says that in East Hampshire, 100 homes should be built in villages in the national park.
They say that this would contribute to that total.
The developers added: “The intention is to build the minimum number of houses required to deliver affordable housing to meet the local need, with the option, should the parish wish it, to deliver a new village hall.”
The previous village hall on the Winchester Road (A272) was demolished because it was getting old, and it’s entrance onto the main Petersfield to Winchester Road was thought to be dangerous.
