EAST and West Meon celebrated the Queen’s 90th birthday with different styles of event on different days, but both villages thoroughly enjoyed their parties.

West Meon family fun day last Saturday (June 11) went down a storm with party goers.

West Meon parish councillor Tony Prowse said: “It was cloudy but warm, and dry. There was a barbecue, bar and bands, and for the children there were activities, like a bouncy castle and games.”

The day raised around £3,500 for local sport clubs.

Meanwhile heavy showers on Sunday (June 12) didn’t deter those enjoying a royal picnic on East?Meon village green.

Organiser Jane Martin said: “It started dry, but about 5pm there were a couple of torrential downpours.

“But there were lots of umbrellas and we just got on with it, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, especially the children as there were lots of games for them.”
