THE new term for Buriton Ducklings childcare group is well under way and the children are as busy as bees with a village project helping pollinators and insects.
Over the summer, Ducklings founders Jade Styles and Emma Foster cultivated their private garden as part of the project.
Jade said: “The children all loved our wonderful wildflowers as well as all the butterflies and insects it attracted.
“I was born and brought up in Buriton, and we are lucky to be in the village hall on the wonderful recreation ground where we can do regular bug hunts. But we’re also close to the village pond and woodlands for fascinating walks.
“Some of the children come from Clanfield, Horndean and Harting, as well as Petersfield, and their parents and grandparents love the setting.
“They can see how much the children enjoy everything.”
Emma added: “It all fits with our ethos.
“Children will need a healthy planet later in their lives, so we try to do everything we can to get them off to a good start.
“Planting our garden with bee bombs to contribute to the wildlife project was perfect for us – and we try to use local materials for our craft activities, too.
“Over the next few weeks the children will be helping build bug hotels and visiting a local farm.
“And we’re pleased to be able to provide a stepping stone to ‘big school.’
“And we try to help all our Ducklings become independent and ready for that big step, so being next door to Buriton Primary School is perfect for everyone.”
School headteacher Danielle Brown said: “We are very pleased the Ducklings are so close, as it provides a great opportunity for parents intending to bring their child to our school in the future.”
Buriton Ducklings is Ofsted approved (with full insurance and first-aid training) and parents interested in enrolling their children can contact Jade and Emma on 07983 201052, or email [email protected]
