RESIDENTS are being asked for their views on new council wards, ward boundaries and ward names across East Hampshire.

Draft recommendations from the Boundary Commission propose that East Hampshire District Council (EHDC) should have 43 councillors in future, one fewer than now.

The recommendations say there should be three three-councillor wards, 11 two-councillor wards and 12 one-councillor wards in the district.

The recommendations and inter-active maps are on the commission’s website at:www. consultation.lgbce.org.uk and www.lgbce.org.uk.

Printed copies are also available at the East Hampshire District Council offices at Penns Place in Petersfield.

The public consultation ends on December 11, and is open to anyone who wants to have their say on the proposals.

Boundary Commission chairman Professor Colin Mellors said: “We are keen to hear what people in East Hampshire think of the recommendations.

“We are asking local people to tell us if they agree with the proposals, or if not, how they can be improved.

“Our review aims to deliver electoral equality for local voters.

“This means each councillor represents a similar number of people so everyone’s vote in council elections is worth roughly the same.

“We will consider all the submissions.”
