EAST Hampshire District Council dog wardens are to host a one day animal health and welfare seminar.

The area of animal health and welfare continues to grow ever more complex and demanding as local authorities are dealing with animals from across the world as well as with more local issues such as dangerous dogs, strays, animal licensing and the ever growing population of pet animals, said a spokesman.

The seminar on Thursday, January 21, in the council offices at Penns Place is designed to appeal to all professionals and individuals who have a responsibility and interest in animal health and welfare and a desire to broaden their understanding of animal welfare and learn and share good practice knowledge from other local authorities. It will examine existing legislation and bylaws as well as addressing new legislation. The seminar will also cover canine access in public spaces, imports of all pet animals under the Pet Travel Scheme, utilisation of media coverage, and updates regarding the micro-chipping of dogs legislation.

The speakers are Sharon Edwards- animal health inspector, Port Health and Public Protection, City of London, Trevor Cooper- canine law specialist, Abigail Toms- environmental health manager, Winchester City Council, Catherine Pollendine- animal partnership manager, Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, and Stephen Jenkinson- access and countryside advisor, Kennel Club

Tickets cost £85 plus VAT, and include lunch and refreshments, payment by credit or debit card only.
