STUDENTS could have a job on their hands if they attend an apprenticeship fair in a East Hampshire school.
Employers from across the district will meet the workforce of the future next Wednesday as a ‘Get East Hants Working Apprenticeship Fair’ is taking place in Horndean Technology College.
The event organised by East Hampshire District Council (EHDC) is aimed at Year 10 and 11 students who are perhaps unsure about their career choices.
Apprenticeships give youngsters the opportunity to ‘earn while you learn’ as they complete a work-based qualification alongside a job.
Apprentices can gain job-specific skills, work alongside experienced staff, earn a wage and study towards a related qualification from an NVQ to a full university degree. The fair will also give firms the chance to attract the next generation of workers along with other incentives.
Financial support is available from EHDC and Business East Hants to companies looking to employ an apprentice through the ‘Get East Hants Working’ initiative, which aims to boost employment, create jobs and grow businesses through support programmes.
The fair, which will take place between 4.30pm and 6.30pm, will be followed by a Community Forum which will focus on apprenticeships in East Hampshire.
Guest speakers will talk about their experiences of hiring apprentices or being one, while a panel including Martin Kiddey, local business owner and apprenticeship champion, Judith Moule, expert on the Apprenticeship Levy and Josh Abbott, former EHDC marketing apprentice, will provide more details.
Businesses which would like more details about getting involved should call EHDC economic development officer Sarah Flamson on 01730 234168 or e-mail her at: [email protected]
