East Hampshire MP Damian Hinds visited Alton-based charity Dogs for Autism to learn more about its work supporting autistic people across the UK.
The charity welcomed Mr Hinds to its training centre, where he heard about the life-changing impact of its specially trained assistance dogs and the challenges faced by users across the sector.
Dogs for Autism said demand for its services is growing, alongside an increasing need for financial and practical support at both local and national level.
Each assistance dog costs about £25,000 to train and support throughout its working life, with the charity relying heavily on donations, community initiatives and volunteers.
It is also encouraging local people to become volunteer puppy raisers to help give young dogs the best possible start in their training.
During the visit, Mr Hinds met several trainee assistance dogs, including Raffi, Dora and Hobson.
He was particularly taken with black Labrador Hobson, who is already well on his way to transforming the life of an autistic person.
More information about the charity and how to support its work is available at dogsforautism.org.uk.
