POLICE are warning residents in East Hampshire to be vigilant after a couple in Bordon received a scam lottery letter.
On December 1, they received a letter claiming to be from Postcode Lotto, which told them they had won £875,000.
When they called a telephone number on the letter, they were told they would have to pay £1,900 in admin fees to release the payment.
Fortunately they realised the letter was a scam and did not hand over any money.
Police believe this scam has been around for many years, with similar letters re-written and sent out to different areas each time.
Unfortunately some people fall victim to it.
Sergeant Ian Dugdale said: “The reminder is to never give out your personal information, especially account details, PIN numbers and signatures to strangers.
“After all, if you haven’t entered, how can you win? Something that seems too good to be true usually is.”
