POLICE officers have issued crime prevention advice following thefts from outbuildings in East Hampshire.

In the last two weeks, 31 non-dwelling burglaries have been reported across the district with outbuildings, sometimes insecure, targeted.

One such incident was in Standford Lane, Bordon, where two chainsaws were taken from a stable building between October 14 and 24.

With darkness falling earlier from this week, with the clocks going back, Hampshire police are urging residents to take security measures.

These can include fitting adequate locks to sheds, garages and outbuildings, installing shutters or grilles to windows, and putting in intruder alarms.

Security lights that come on at dusk and go off at dawn are recommended too, along with timer switches for lights and CCTV.

Vehicles and plant equipment should be locked when left outside, and all property, including vehicles and tools, uniquely marked and photographed with details such as serial, chassis and model numbers recorded.
