SPORTING men, women and youngsters have been recognised at the East Hampshire Sports Awards evening.

More than 300 people from across the district and those who support them attended the awards evening, held at Old Thorns Manor Hotel.

It was organised by East Hampshire District Council and rewarded sporting achievements and the commitment of those who make success possible, such as coaches and officials.

Guest speaker at the event was one of Britain’s most successful athletes, Roger Black, and it was hosted by ITV Meridian Tonight presenter and a long time supporter of the event, Fred Dinenage.

The winners included Arsenal star Calum Chambers from Petersfield, who was named as joint winner of the Sportsman of the Year category with talented cricketer Brad Taylor.

Councillor Julie Butler said: “It’s great to have had so many nominations from such a wide range of sporting areas.” The winners will now be entered in the Hampshire Sports Awards, which take place next month.
