IN THE run-up to Easter, a Lenten-themed programme will be offered by The Renaissance Choir when it performs in St Peter’s Church, Petersfield, on February 27, at 7.30pm.
This event marks the start of a 40th anniversary year for the choir, and the year brims with delectable music which encapsulates the south coast ensembles successes over the decades.
The choir has tackled many of the major polychoral works, and this programme sees them rise to the challenge of Caldara’s 16-part Crucifixus in Road to Calvary.
It also features Lotti’s Crucifixus and two settings of O Vos Omnes, one of which will be the world premiere of a work written by the choir’s partner-composer James Dunlop.
Pianist Karen Kingsley will accompany the choir who will also give renditions of Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna, Bruckner’s Motets, Congaudeant Catolici by Anon, Missa pro Defunctis by Lobo, and Lamentations of Jeremiah and Videte Miraculum by Tallis.
Part of the choir’s illustrious tradition lies in world firsts, and this tradition led to them being one of the first UK choirs to bring American composers to the public’s attention, which is why the sensuous Lux Aeterna is part of the performance.
Tickets are £12, £10 concessions, £2 students, from One Tree Books in Petersfield, on the door, or on 023 9247 5259.
