The children arrived at Gilbert’s White House brimming with questions about Antarctica.
The staff at Gilbert White’s House had organised an array of hands-on activities, such as object-handling, dressing-up, and artefact-quest, and investigations to help the children experience the daily life of a South Pole Explorer.
The children discussed the use of equipment and rations, and then looked into the scientific intentions of Scott’s ill-fated 1912 Antarctic Expedition.
The Brookham school children explored themes of nutrition, properties of different materials and forces, and experimented with a range of scientific equipment.
After a busy trip full of learning opportunities, the children returned to school to spend time writing accounts of their trip and sharing their favourite moments with their friends.
