CHILDREN in Year 3 at Brookham Pre-Prep in Liphook have been visited by 2016 Rio Olympic Silver Medallist and Team GB Rugby Sevens Player Ruaridh McConnochie.

The England international, who has played for his country in more than 20 tournaments around the world on the Sevens Circuit, visited Brookham School to put the children through their paces in a number of rugby coaching sessions.

Each session consisted of a thorough warm up, team work exercises and some fun games to get the children focused on the main activity, which was a series of short explosive sprints, involving side stepping, dodging and shuffling.

Passing drills, relays and mini competitions completed the sessions and really engaged the children, who were hugely excited by the whole experience.

The coaching sessions were followed by a question and answer session with the pupils. Year 3 wanted to know about Ruaridh’s daily diet and training regime, how he first got into rugby and how he was scouted to play for England while playing at the University of Gloucestershire.

The final part of the day was spent watching Highfield School’s under-12s in their rugby tournament. Ruaridh gave a short speech and handed out medals to the children.
