CADETS from two Petersfield schools came together for a biennial inspection.
The Combined Cadet Forces from The Petersfield School (TPS) and Churcher’s College joined for a parade at Churcher’s College’s Ramshill site.
The inspecting officer was RAF Group Captain Colin Bruce and was attended by the two headteachers Mark Marande of TPS and Simon Williams of Churcher’s College.
In addition, the head of South East Reserve Forces and Cadets Association, Colonel Patrick Corley, and senior representatives from the Royal British Legion, the community, parents and many pupils turned out to witness the day’s events.
The day commenced with a salute and inspection during which Group Captain Bruce spoke to cadets.
It was followed by a march past which was set to musical accompaniment by the Churcher’s College Band.
After lunch, afternoon activities were divided between the Royal Navy, the Army, and the RAF sections, of the cadet forces.
Tent-building, ship-turning, weapons training, outdoor cooking and survival, were among the activities on the programme.
The army cadets’ section attack was watched with particular interest by those attending, in which one team of cadets were the attackers, while the other group was the target.
The cadets commandingly demonstrated their knowledge of tactics and teamwork as well as weapons-handling.
The day concluded with a final parade, which was followed by tea.
CCF Contingent Commander at Churcher’s College Lieutenant Commander Kirsty Verney said: “This was the first biennial inspection I have been involved in.
“And the thing that struck me most was the sheer sense of celebration about the day – our unique community within the school and the huge variety of opportunities that CCF provides our cadets.
"I would especially like to thank all our volunteer officers and staff for their hard work
“Not only for making the inspection day itself such a great success but also for making the Combined Cadet Forces work on a weekly basis throughout the year.”
