RECEPTION class at Churcher’s College Junior School has been busy preparing bird feeders for their garden area this term as part of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) big schools’ birdwatching activities.

The class registered for the world’s largest wildlife survey in January and did some research on the RSPB website.

They spent time in the sensory garden, looking out for birds, using posters and the information books the children brought from home.

As part of the RSPB big schools’ birdwatch, they counted how many birds they spotted and then sent the data to the RSPB through its website.

“The best bit is you get to watch the birds peck on your bird food,” said one four-year-old from the class.

“I love watching birds fly. A robin is my favourite bird,” said one five-year-old.

“I like listening to the birds singing,” said two friends from the class.

The project offers an opportunity for the children to enjoy exploring wildlife and spend time appreciating the outdoors at this time of year. Now the class is waiting to find out what has been discovered across Great Britain and hopes to receive a certificate to say the pupils have taken part.
