CHURCHER’S College Junior School held a vocal evening of song, with more than 85 performers.
Children representing all year groups in the juniors provided a programme stretching from gospel spirituals to English folk songs.
Churcher’s Ukulele Group (CHUG) kick-started the evening with a mash-up of several songs all performed over a classic four chord sequence.
Several solos, duets and trios followed, each sung with confidence.
The evening finished with the debut performance of The Big Sing.
This vocal ensemble is a new addition to the school’s music department in catering for the ever increasing number of pupils wanting to sing in a group and is supported by Kayleigh Pendry.
With nearly 90 singers, it is proving very popular.
For the vocal evening The Big Sing performed a three-part round on the spiritual Good News Coming. It was the perfect way to end the concert with the audience on their feet and joining in.
The vocal evening was organised by head of music Hamish Newport, who thanked singing teacher Victoria Larley for her hard work in preparing her pupils and accompanying them in their performances.
