STUDENTS at Churcher’s College enjoyed a stay on board HMS Bristol.

The Senior School third year students visited the retired vessel, which was once a guardian of the Fleet against air attack and a veteran of the Falklands War. It is now a training and accommodation ship in Portsmouth Harbour.

Students were given weapons training by learning how to fire rifles at a shooting range, as well as taking part in a low ropes and assault course.

The whole experience was aimed at teaching the students what it is like to be in the Royal Navy and they were even asked to march around the training site and sleep in real cadet bunk beds.

It comes as students at Churcher’s College start their Combined Cadet Force (CCF) activities in the third year.
