THE MEMBER of Parliament for East Hampshire has welcomed students to Westminster.

Damian Hinds hosted a two-day ‘Taste of Parliament’ event for a group of sixth formers.

The students were from schools across the constituency.

The 12 students came from Alton College, Bohunt School, Alton?School, Churcher’s College and Bedales.

The students covered a lot of ground during the two days, including a tour of parliament with the education unit, visits to both the House of Commons and Lords Chambers to see live debates, sitting in on different select committee hearings as well as a visit to the House of Commons library.

They also had a briefing from a member of Damian’s staff at the Department for Work and Pensions and took part in a question and answer session with him.

Damian said: “It was a pleasure to meet the group of sixth formers, many of whom are studying politics and are obviously interested to understand more about our parliamentary processes.

“I hope the two days gave them a good insight into how parliament works and the privilege I have to represent East Hampshire.”
