MORE than 1,600 Year 6 pupils preparing to move on to secondary schools from 60 Hampshire Church of England schools attended ‘leavers’ services in Winchester Cathedral.

Bishop of Winchester the Right Rev Tim Dakin said: “These services marked a poignant moment as the children prepare to open the next chapter of their lives.”

The services also marked the culmination of the Ewe Matter project, an inter-generational initiative aimed at fostering closer links between schools and the parishes they are in.

Earlier this year, fibreglass sheep were delivered to schools and decorated by pupils, often with the help of adult churchgoers. The decorated fibreglass flock was assembled at the front of Winchester Cathedral for the leaver services.
