A TRIP to the Houses of Parliament was a vote winner for Year 6 pupils at a Liphook school.

The group from Churcher’s College Junior School in Midhurst Road were treated to a detailed tour of both Houses as part of their Citizenship curriculum.

Pupils were fascinated to see where Lords and MPs sit and discuss the key decisions of the day.

They also saw where and how MPs vote, and learned about the monarchy’s impact on the running of parliament.

The visit clearly gave the pupils food for thought and they tucked into lunch on a Thames river cruise, passing St Paul’s Cathedral, The Globe Theatre, Tate Modern gallery, The Shard tourist attraction, Tower Bridge and the Tower of London along the way.

They also visited the Tower of London, and one pupil said: "The highlights at the Tower of London were the Queen’s crown and the torture chambers."

On the same day as the Year 6 trip to London, Year 3 pupils were enjoying an Anglo Saxon day inside the school, and in its grounds.

They dressed in Anglo Saxon costume and took part on talks on the era, and tried spending the day as Anglo Saxons.

The fun-packed day ended with a sausage-on-a-stick barbecue in the school grounds.
