CHILDREN in Year 2 at Brookham Pre-Prep School in Liphook travelled back in time on a fascinating visit to the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum near Chichester.

Over the course of the day, the children participated in a range of interesting workshops.

During the farming workshop, they were introduced to Tudor farming methods and learnt that the Tudors used strips of land, long scythes and a heavy wooden plough as part of growing their crops.

Another workshop involved learning about Tudor medicines with the apothecary and the children were able to make their own pomander beads.

While exploring the Tudor houses, the children realised how harsh Tudor life was and began to appreciate their home comforts.

Finally, during their visit to the Tudor kitchen they tasted leek pottage and learnt how bread was cooked over an open fire.

Although the children had a wonderful day, they did go home very grateful to be back in the 21st century.
