YEAR 5 pupils at Churcher’s College Junior School set off for the nearby town of Midhurst on a history and geography expedition.
Paul Ullson met the pupils and they crossed the Causeway, stopping to learn about the trees, plants, marshes and wildlife alongside the path.
At Cowdray, they began to follow the river and discovered the reason this part of the River Rother has a right angle in it.
The route then went to St Anne’s Hill, where pupils examined the Norman castle ruins. This was the site of a motte and bailey castle at one time.
When they reached Church Square, the children settled themselves comfortably on the flagstones and produced sketches of the Norman church and the nearby Tudor buildings.
The final stretch of the walk went through the Georgian and Victorian areas of Midhurst.
