Healthy eating experts visited infant, junior and primary schools in Whitehill and Bordon to give children a flavour of how to pack a healthy lunchbox.

Hampshire County Council’s catering services team showed pupils the way to create a nutritious and delicious lunch. The children filled up on carrot sticks, watermelon, yoghurts and other healthy alternatives.

A healthy, balanced diet helps give children the best start in life, providing them with the right amount of energy and nutrients.

It lays the foundations for good health in later life and helps prevent children becoming overweight or obese. The catering team went to the schools as part of Whitehill and Bordon’s Healthy New Town programme.

Balance bikes are being used to help children learn to cycle so they can ride for fun and exercise with their families.

Schools have received games equipment and training for lunchtime supervisors and young playleaders, to encourage active play at breaktimes.

Sarah Carter, assistant headteacher at Woodlea Primary School, said: “The children really enjoyed the sessions and learnt more about healthy eating.”
