PROJECTS aimed at encouraging healthy living for Bordon and Whitehill youngsters are being backed by East Hampshire District Council.
Park and Stride will encourage children at Bordon Infant and Junior schools and their parents to walk to school.
The scheme is co-ordinated by Hampshire County Council and supported by the Whitehill and Bordon Regeneration Company and East Hampshire District Council’s Healthy New Town programme.
School run parents are being encouraged to walk thier children from home to school and back again, or park in one of the four designated car parks and walk to school from there.
Portfolio holder for Whitehill and Bordon at East Hampshire District Councillor Ferris Cowper said: “This is an excellent way of incorporating exercise into people’s every day lives.
“We are totally committed here to helping people, especially children, live as active lives as they can.
“I encourage families to get involved and help make Whitehill and Bordon an even healthier town.”
Bordon Infant School pupils are also going to spend more time being active after signing up to a scheme which encourages youngsters to spend more time walking, jogging and running.
The Golden Mile scheme encourages pupils to walk, skip, hop, jog or run around a measured distance – the Golden Mile track – within the safety of the school grounds.
The initiative is co-ordinated by the Energise Me sports partnership which includes East Hampshire District Council’s Healthy New Town Programme.
Any infant, junior, primary or special school can sign up for the Golden Mile to provide pupils with greater access to physical activity.
They will also see wider gains of regular activity with improved health benefits, classroom behaviour and concentration levels.
