CHURCHER’S College Junior School celebrated the wonders of science, technology, engineering, arts and maths (STEAM) in STEAM week.

Pupils had the opportunity to find out all they want to know about STEAM with talks, projects and hands-on experience.

The week began with scientist and speaker Ian Russell, who shared his contagious delight in phenomena with the whole junior school.

Ian presented a fast moving and entertaining demonstration of simple but spectacular experiments using everyday materials to create memorable results.

During the week he also shared gigantic bubbles in the playground and helped Year 5 launch rockets.

Parents joined the children throughout the week as they worked on their science exhibits. Year 4 produced working robots, Year 6 took charge of the iPad explanations for each exhibit which were linked to QR codes, and Reception thought about science under the sea.

Headteacher of Churcher’s College Junior School and Nursery Ffion Robinson said: “STEAM is embedded into the core curriculum here and it’s good for pupils to see how it is connected to everything in the wider world. We want to inspire and motivate interest in these subjects.”
