THE WONDERS of wood were revealed to around 150 visitors to the workshop in Froxfield set up by one of the finest British furniture makers of the 20th century.

History and heritage is engrained in the Edward Barnsley Workshop, and there was much craftsmanship to be discovered at its annual open day on Saturday.

There was the chance to see apprentices honing their skills at the workshop in Cockshot Lane which dates back to the influential Arts and Crafts movement, with some of their work on display.

Visitors admired commissioned furniture too made by the dedicated team, including a lectern for Brighton College and a lovingly crafted fire surround for a local client.

Many made purchases of smaller items such as chess boards, jewellery boxes and bread boards to take home, and teas were enjoyed in the workshop and garden, which is being restored.
