A PRESTIGIOUS international art show was rocked by a particular bespoke piece of furniture from Froxfield.
A beautiful white rocking chair, hand-crafted at The Edward Barnsley Workshop in Cockshott Lane, wowed visitors to the annual week-long Masterpiece London event in London, which closed on Wednesday.
The company’s stand at The Royal Hospital Chelsea had a striking monochrome theme, with the chair taking centre stage against a black backdrop.
Also debuting at Masterpiece, which was launched in 2010 as a buying and selling showcase for the finest works of art, from antiquity to the present day, was a new white scrubbed oak sidetable from the Froxfield workshop.
Edward Barnsley’s designer-manager James Ryan said: “As a designer, I love the feedback and inter-action with the visitors coming to Masterpiece excited to see the exhibits.
“I?also enjoy seeing the inspiring art work and pieces on the other stands, and meeting the dealers who specialise in selling them.”
Every piece at Masterpiece London is of the highest quality with stringent criteria laid down.
Over the last seven years it has established itself as the leading international event in its field.
Creating the white oak rocking chair involves skilled apprentices bleaching the wood and scrubbing it with an abrasive scouring powder to create the ‘blonde’ look.
Against the black background it takes on an ethereal quality and it appears to be organically moulded from a single piece of wood.
“This is largely due to the scrubbed oak finish which makes it hard to see where one piece of wood finishes and another begins,” said James.
