An hilarious family show that blends Gothic romance with Hollywood musicals is coming to Petersfield Festival Hall this month.

Petersfield Theatre Group’s latest production, The Addams Family, is based on the well-known TV show about a quirky, gloom-obsessed clan who have lived by their own unique values for hundreds of years.

Gomez and Morticia, the patriarch and matriarch, would be only too happy to continue living that way.

But daughter Wednesday has fallen in love with a boy from a ‘normal’ home and wants to invite the family to dinner.

The extended Addams clan – including a heap of ancestors temporarily liberated from the family crypt – must make the evening a success.

What could possibly go wrong?

In one fateful, hilarious night, secrets are disclosed, and relationships are tested.

And the Addams Family realise they must face up to the horrible thing they’ve managed to avoid for generations – change.

Director Kat Wotton said: “The Addams are a close-knit, loving, friendly, wealthy family who just happen to be a little eccentric. This show is all about being true to yourself, even if that means enjoying an evening swim with a giant squid, being tortured on the rack by your sister, only ever wearing black, or dancing with your dead ancestors.

“As Grandma Addams says, “define normal...”

The sense of the macabre will extend beyond the stage with a full-on immersive theatrical experience, as the audience will get an invitation to visit the gloom-ridden ambience of the Addams Family Mansion Bar before, during and after the show.

Here, they can feel the exquisite enticement of moonlit darkness, sample the specially -created character-based cocktails and have their picture taken with the Addams’ souvenirs and possibly stray family members.

There may even be a fortune teller on hand to predict a doom-laden, miserable future.

Robert Ingram, who is running the bar, said: “We want to give our audiences a taste of a life on the dark side, as well as adding to the fun of the musical.”

This immersive experience is now a regular feature of PTG shows.

When the group performed Made in Dagenham back in May this year, the bar was transformed into the Ford works canteen circa 1968, while for Chicago in 2019, it masqueraded as 1920s Chicago speakeasy.

Performances of The Addams Family run from November 23 to November 26, and include a matinée performance on the Saturday.

Tickets are available via the PTG website at https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/ptg or from Bambino Baby in Petersfield.
