THE SUN shone as Empshott and Hawkley Horticultural Society held its summer show.
The show was held at Hawkley Village Hall on July 21, and it attracted 105 entries from 18 entrants. The hot weather affected the show, with the number of entries down on last year’s total.
Tony Madeley won three trophies, winning the Royal Horticultural Society Banksian Medal, the Sir Ralph Edwards Cup for flowers and the Cheesecombe Award for novice arrangement.
David Lentaigne won the Lady Royden Cup for fruit and vegetables, Simone Caukill won the Olive Baring Cup for cookery, Mary Crittenden won the Wright Cup for flower arrangement, Stella Savage won the Robert Howe Cup for the best in show and Mike Lanning won the Photography Cup.
Empshott and Hawkley Horticultural Society summer show secretary Stella Savage said: “Due to the extremely hot weather over the last few weeks the number of entries was down on last year with several classes unrepresented completely.
“Perhaps we should increase the classes for cacti next year,” she added.
