VOTING in Petersfield today for the in or out EU Referendum got off to a brisk start this morning at 7am.

Polling stations across East Hampshire opened on time at 7am and despite more than inch of overnight rain, which tailed off about 7.15am, voters were quick off the mark with the first vote being cast soon after 7am.

At the polling station in The Avenue Pavilion in Petersfield there was a steady stream of voters after the doors opened. At Siward House in Borough Road, there was a queue waiting to vote, and voting in St Peters Church Hall polling station was 'steady' from first thing.

Residents are being reminded that polling stations close at 10pm, and then if there are queues the doors will shut, and only those in the queue will be able to vote.

Locally and nationally a big turnout is being predicted, and the result is expected to be close.

Those behind the Remain in the EU and Leave the EU campaigns are urging everyone to vote.
