CLAIMS that Petersfield cemetery has become overgrown have been blamed on ‘exceptional growing conditions’ this year.
The cemetery of Ramshill is maintained by contractors Norse South East on behalf of East Hampshire District Council.
But recently some cemetery visitors have argued the work isn’t being done properly and the cemetery has become neglected and overgrown in places.
In a statement, the council said: “Exceptional growing conditions in April and May, coupled with funeral services at the cemetery, meant it was very difficult to keep the site in perfect condition at that time.
“However, it is in good condition again now and we will be making sure it is well cared for in future.
“We also ask visitors to the cemetery to limit the number of mementos left on graves as these can create difficulties for our groundsmen as they strim around and between plots.”
