A MEMBER of a chart-topping boy band will play a warm-up gig in Rowlands Castle this weekend ahead of dazzling event in Petersfield.

Mark Read – who enjoyed major success with A1 in the late 1990s and early 2000s – will perform at the recreation ground this Saturday, November 5, ahead of the village’s annual fireworks display.

The musician is currently touring in the Far East but will return to Hampshire this week as he’s starring in the Santa Claus: The Musical at New Theatre Royal Portsmouth in December.

The Rowlands Castle gig will be his first on returning to the UK with the one-off performance taking place at 6.30pm, half an hour before the fireworks are lit.

There will be no bonfire at this year’s display but the event, organised by the Rowlands Castle Association, will include the usual fairground rides and amusements.

Gates will open at 5.30pm while villagers have been encouraged to bring a torch and wear sensible shoes and clothing as the field can get a bit muddy.

Fans will get another opportunity to see Mark in Petersfield on November 25 as the versatile singer is performing at the town’s Christmas Lights ceremony.
