AN ENERGY company has announced that as well as the £2m it is spending renewing underground power cables in Petersfield, a further £300,000 is to be spent improving the supply network.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) says the multi-million pound project to replace low voltage cable is going as planned, and alongside this work, it intends to install new high voltage cable too.

This will see 1km of high voltage cable laid in and around Penns Road and The Square in the same trenches as the low voltage cable.

However, the extension of the scheme means work will extend to mid-November.

But everything possible will be done to have much of the work completed before the busy pre-Christmas period, said an SSEN spokesman.

The company’s head of customer operations for the South East region Chris Slingsby added: “This additional work is an essential part of our commitment to providing the best service possible, and while it means that we will be working in Petersfield town centre longer than we announced, we felt that it was better to do it now, rather than come back again next year to work along the same route.”
