MEMBERS of Liss in Stitches enjoyed a two-day summer school in which they dyed fabric using various techniques.
Ice dyeing was a great favourite. Fabric was covered with ice cubes and the powdered dye sprinkled over the top. Once the ice had melted, taking the dye through the fabric, the results were stunning.
Other techniques used were flour paste resist and soya wax resist. However, the other very popular activity was a process called shibori.
It is a Japanese traditional skill where fabric is folded, or gathered to form resistance to the indigo dye it is then immersed in – another interesting experience.
It was a busy two days resulting in many pieces of uniquely printed fabric.
New members are welcome and the first meeting is free. For more information visit www.lissinstitches.wordpress.com
