A VOLUNTEER recruitment fair held at Liss was a success, say organisers.

The fair was held at the Triangle centre from 2pm to 4pm on Saturday.

It was the first fair of its kind that the centre has organised.

Triangle manager Sally Tanner said: “This was the first time that we have done this, and pretty much all the organisations we were expecting to turn up turned up.

“Everyone made an effort and it was a nice afternoon with a nice atmosphere.

“There was not a huge amount of people from the community coming in, but I think it was a hard sell.

“A few teenagers on their Duke of Edinburgh volunteered for the Triangle coffee bar, and Liss Conservation Trust got some volunteers.”

Sally was pleased with the number of organisations who attended the fair.

She said: “We had the Triangle office and coffee bar, Liss Band, Liss Conservation Trust, Crossover Youth Centre, Eastfield House, East Hill House, Alzheimer’s Society, Dementia Friends, St Mary’s Church, Liss Lunch Club and Liss Scouts.

“People will go away and talk about the fair, and we are generally quite pleased with how it went.

“Most of the organisations felt quite positive about it, and there was quite a lot of networking going on.

“I think the lunch club and the Crossover got together, which is positive.”

As Saturday’s event was the first volunteer fair at the Triangle, Sally is hoping to build some momentum and help to recruit more volunteers in the village.

She added: “We hope to have another event in the summer, but I will get feedback from the organisations who attended first to see if they would want to do it.

“At the end of the day, people in the community will benefit from these organisations working together.”
