THE SUN shone, Queen Victoria arrived in a vintage car, and a traction engine gave rides around the town, as visitors flocked to the Victorian fair in Petersfield Square.

Organised by Petersfield Museum, the fair also saw stall holders dressed in period costume, and included attractions such as a 19th century photographer, a Punch and Judy show, a Guess the Weight of the Yokel competition, and music and theatre on a stage.

Petersfield showman David Weeks, now in his 70s, was in the lead vintage car of the three-vehicle convoy which drove Victoria, portrayed by children’s author Michelle Magorian, from her home in the town to The Square.

Mr Weeks said: “Thousands of people must have visited the fair, it was a great day for the town.

“The sun was shining, there was a really friendly atmosphere, I wouldn’t have missed it for anything.”
