A FEMALE motorcyclist suffered serious injuries after colliding with a car on the main road from Petersfield to West Meon.

The collision happened at about 3.30pm on Thursday, March 9, and the 36-year-old motorcyclist ended up under the front of a Toyota Auris, which came to rest partially off the A272.

A witness said the bike was laying in the middle of the road but added that the driver of the Auris, which was travelling west toward West Meon, wasn’t hurt.

Some drivers of cars that pulled up after the accident, which left debris scattered across the road, moved the car away from the motorcyclist.

Others stopped oncoming traffic and helped motorists turn around, and offered advice on the best route to take to get round the incident, that happened just west of the Privett turning.

Lorries, including two refuse collection ones, that couldn’t turn around parked and waited for the road to reopen.

Police arrived about 3.45pm and about the same time the Hampshire Air Ambulance helicopter landed in a field beside the road. An ambulance and paramedics were also there.

The road was fully reopen by about 6pm.

A police spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a collision involving a motorcyclist and a Toyota Auris on the A272 near Bordean Lane.

“The female rider suffered serious injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital. The driver of the car was uninjured.”

She added that if anyone saw the collision they should call 101, quoting reference 44170089135.
